Welcome to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Vevey

Ashtanga Vevey was founded in 2018 by Delara Tiv with the intention of creating a space for community to emerge and to support yoga practitioners of all levels on their path of self-discovery in this deeply transformational practice.

We are eternal students, deeply devoted to the roots and lineage of Ashtanga Yoga. We continually study and evolve as we learn… honoring it and keeping it sacred. The path of yoga is not only an individual path, but also a community path. How we grow as individuals is linked to how we thrive as a community.

Classes

This class offers a highly personalised approach to practice. Like a private lesson in a group setting. Each student will receive personal guidance to develop a skilful practice appropriate to their level and condition where you move at your own pace and rhythm. Beginners welcome.
This class focuses on the fundamentals of Ashtanga yoga – we break down the elements of Sun Salutations, standing and seated postures up to Navasana. We explore some of the challenging asanas that come after and conclude with a selection of the traditional finishing sequence. Beginners welcome!
In our Led Primary Series class the group will move and breath together in unison as we transition (vinyasa) in and out of each pose. The rhythmic count will be in Sanskrit. Previous knowledge of the entire Ashtanga Primary Series poses is required. Not suitable for beginners
Deepen your understanding of foundation principles of yoga to empower your work with yoga techniques and all aspects of Life.

Delara is one of the rare yoga teachers who not only teaches and practices the advanced A & B sequence of Ashtanga yoga but is also a former professional dancer and therapist. She has the ability to help her students overcome inefficient postural, coordination, and movement habits. Delara has worked with the prestigious Alvin Ailey Dance Company as their therapist and movement educator.

James stands out as one of the very few yoga teachers internationally who has a master’s degree in Sanskrit and yoga philosophy. He is known for his expertise in these subjects and teaches in three different languages.

Romain and Elisa are dedicated practitioners and teachers who fully embrace the unique approach to Ashtanga yoga that Delara teaches, making the physically challenging practice of Ashtanga Yoga safe and sustainable.

GUIDED ASHTANGA

Guided Ashtanga Class

At Ashtanga Yoga Vevey we are committed to teaching Ashtanga in a safe and intelligent way, paying particular attention to anatomical alignment in poses as well as the foundations of an Ashtanga practice: ujjayi (breathing technique special to regulate breathing and calm the nervous system). ), bandhas (to channel energy, and to engage/stabilise  the deep core) and drishti (points of concentration to keep the mind focused and turned inward). It is these aspects that make this physical practice highly self-transforming and not simply “a good workout”. Of course, all the benefits of a good workout are obtained, but with yoga we get even more than that.

Delara Tiv is a certified Advanced Rolfer™, making her a distinguished yoga teacher; have a broad knowledge of the fascial web system across the human body, postural patterns and movement coordination. Through the structural integration of Rolfing®, Delara will have the opportunity to help students better understand their posture and movement patterns in daily life and on the yoga mat. This way, students can understand their limitations and create more effective ways of moving and breathing.

I have heard about Delara Tiv in and abroad Asthanga yoga retreat, looking for a teacher that got a sincere interest for the fundamental principles of yoga, more than just for the asana practice and a deep understanding of anatomy. I was fortunate enough to find such a teacher in Delara soon after starting with Asthanga. She puts so much energy and love in her work and has an eagle eye for the detail, detecting quickly what you do wrong, why and knows how to adapt the posture to your body in a way that makes you progress. Here, you will find a practice that is much more satisfying than a purely body oriented practice like pilates or fitness. She is consequent to teach you not to arrive as soon as possible to the most impressive posture but to do the asanas in a clean, epurated and safe way. Through the very deep understanding of dynamic anatomy that she got through her work as a Rolfer, she knows how to adapt a posture to your level and to give you advice to get a better body awareness. The integrative view she got of the body, as a whole, with all the interactions of the different muscle groups with lasting, effective and conservative advices is a view and way of working that I value a lot as a medic. I clearly recommend her for musculoskeletal problems. She also has a very good understanding of the philosophy of yoga and gives a much deeper dimension to the practice than I got to experience in other schools. So if you are looking to get a deeper understanding of yoga as a philosophy, a way of living and to improve your body awarness then I can only recommend you the philosophy of this school.

This ashtanga shala is indeed blessed and special. Delera teaching/adjustment is highly valuable, caring, and meaningful, grounded in years of practice and studies. Her assistants Elisa and Romain are in her footsteps. The fundamental of Ashtanga practice are expected and reminded as a whole attitude from the practioners: Casa Vinyasa is not a gym. What matters the most is how sincere and dedicated you are in your practice and then support will be there for you. Not to omit: the shala is simply gorgeous! A contemporary loft with a soul, high ceiling, plenty of windows, giant happy plants, great library and the entire space is very well maintained and extra clean. This shala stands out among all the previous I have been to in Europe and further🤩🙏🏼.

New to Yoga?

Every Astanga yoga practitioner has stepped on a mat for the very first time and we all remember what it feels like to start something new. With this in mind, we aim to make getting started as easy as possible.

Are You Suffering From Back Pain, Previous Injuries, Perimenopausal Symptoms, Autoimmune Disorders or Exhaustion?

I enjoy helping students and patients overcome their physical or mental suffering by developing a sustainable yoga practice and seeking therapy if necessary. I have studied movement my whole life, studying yoga, breath work and meditation for almost 20 years with some of the greatest living masters from the East and West. I combined this work by studying Rolfing® structural integration and I am one of the few therapists certified in advanced Rolfing structural integration in the canton of Vaud, reimbursed by all complementary health insurances in Switzerland. Helping people overcome chronic pain and movement limitations, easy breathing, postural awareness and movement education are my areas of expertise. If you already suffer from an illness or injury, it is best to begin your yoga practice with a therapist who can tailor the practice to your needs, providing healing rather than further damage.
